Pre-wedding shoot in Jaipur
The Pink City, painted pink in 1876 to welcome a prince, and pink ever since. Hand-painted gateways, marble cenotaphs and hilltop forts, in the kind of light that makes everyone look like royalty.
Best time: October to March, in the first two hours after sunrise or the last two before sunset.
Where photographers take couples

Patrika Gate
The painted gateway to Jawahar Circle, newer than any palace in Jaipur: every pillar and arch is painted by hand with scenes from Rajasthan.

Albert Hall
Rajasthan's oldest museum. Its foundation stone was laid in 1876 when the Prince of Wales visited, and at night the whole building glows gold.

Amer Fort
The hilltop palace of the Kachhwaha kings, begun in the late 16th century in pink sandstone and marble above Maota Lake.

The Pink City
Jaipur was painted pink in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales, and the old city has kept the colour ever since.

Gaitore ki Chhatriyan
The carved marble cenotaphs of Jaipur's maharajas, at the foot of the Nahargarh hills and quiet even on the busiest days.

Jaigarh Fort
The hilltop fort above Amer, built in 1726 to guard it, with the world's largest cannon on wheels and long views over the Aravallis.

Hawa Mahal
The 'palace of winds', built in 1799 with 953 small windows so the royal women could watch the street unseen. The best view is from the rooftop cafés across the road.

Jal Mahal
A palace that seems to float in the middle of Man Sagar lake, with a long promenade on the shore and the hills behind.
