Pre-wedding shoot in India
Pre-wedding shoot in Jodhpur
A city washed in indigo at the foot of Mehrangarh, one of India's largest forts. Blue lanes, a rose-red stepwell, and the sandstone cenotaphs of Marwar's kings.
Best time: October to March; rooftops in the morning, Mandore and the stepwell in the late afternoon.
Where photographers take couples

Blue city rooftops
From the old quarter's rooftops the blue houses climb all the way to Mehrangarh, a fort begun in 1459 on a rock 120 metres above the city.

Blue lanes
The old city's houses are washed in indigo blue. Some say it keeps them cool in summer; others that it once marked the homes of priests.

Painted walls
Murals of turbaned, moustached Rajput men watch over the blue lanes, painted by local artists on walls that were plain a decade ago.

Toorji ka Jhalra
A stepwell built in the 1740s by a queen of Jodhpur, its rose-red sandstone steps falling to green water. It lay buried in silt for decades before being cleaned in 2016.

Mandore Gardens
The old capital of Marwar, where the red sandstone cenotaphs of Jodhpur's rulers rise among gardens, carved like temples.
