What goes on a lagna patrika
It opens with “॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥” and often the family deity, then “शुभ विवाह” and “सप्रेम निमंत्रण”. Then the blessing of the elders, with कै. before a late grandparent’s name.
Next come the two of you: चि. before the groom’s name and चि. सौ. कां. before the bride’s. Then the muhurt, the venue, the programme, and the families who invite you (निमंत्रक) and wait to welcome you (स्वागतोत्सुक).
From sakhar puda to the reception
साखरपुडा, the engagement, sealed with sugar and a saree for the bride. केळवण, the feasts relatives host for the couple. हळद, usually the day before the wedding.
Then the wedding: the antarpat held between you while the family sings the मंगलाष्टके, until “शुभमंगल सावधान” and the cloth drops. Then the saptapadi, and the स्वागत समारंभ.
Your invite, the Marathi way
Pick Marathi as your tradition and your invite opens with श्री गणेशाय नमः, with the halad, the wedding and the reception ready. Each card carries its Marathi name: हळद, साखरपुडा, शुभविवाह, स्वागत समारंभ.
Akshata with every patrika
Many families hand over the patrika with a few grains of akshata, rice touched with kumkum, as a blessing. On WhatsApp, a warm line in Marathi does the same.
लग्नपत्रिका कशी बनवायची
1. नावे लिहा. वधू आणि वराची नावे इंग्रजीत लिहा आणि खाली मराठीत, घरी जशी लिहितात तशीच. प्रत्येक डिझाइन लगेच तुमच्या नावांनी दिसू लागते. त्यासाठी साइन-अप करावे लागत नाही.
2. परंपरा म्हणून मराठी निवडा. पत्रिका ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥ ने सुरू होते आणि हळद, शुभविवाह व स्वागत समारंभ हे कार्यक्रम तुमच्या तारखेभोवती आधीच मांडलेले असतात. मुहूर्ताची वेळ तुमच्या गुरुजींनी दिलेल्या वेळेप्रमाणे बदला.
3. कार्यक्रम पूर्ण करा. प्रत्येक कार्यक्रमाची वेळ, ठिकाण आणि पेहराव लिहा. साखरपुडा किंवा सीमांतपूजन हवे असल्यास नवा कार्यक्रम जोडा. फक्त जवळच्या नातेवाईकांसाठी असलेल्या कार्यक्रमावर तसे चिन्ह लावा.
4. पत्रिकेचा क्रम जुळवा. सर्वात वर श्री गणेशाय नमः, मग वडीलधाऱ्यांचे आशीर्वाद, मग आई-वडिलांच्या नावांसह वधू-वरांची नावे, मुहूर्त आणि विवाहस्थळ. आशीर्वादात आजी-आजोबांची नावे लिहा आणि दिवंगतांच्या नावापुढे कै. लिहा. स्वागतोत्सुक म्हणून भावंडे आणि मित्रमंडळी.
5. विवाहस्थळाची Google Maps लिंक जोडा, म्हणजे कोणालाही पत्ता दोनदा विचारावा लागणार नाही. उत्तरासाठी तुमचा WhatsApp नंबर आणि उत्तर देण्याची शेवटची तारीख द्या.
6. प्रत्येक कुटुंबाला त्याची लिंक पाठवा. कुटुंबांची नावे जोडा, जसे देशपांडे किंवा कुलकर्णी. प्रत्येक लिंक त्या कुटुंबाला नावाने बोलावते आणि त्यांना ज्या कार्यक्रमांचे निमंत्रण आहे तेवढेच दाखवते. पाहुणे एका टॅपवर इंग्रजीत वाचू शकतात.

What is a lagna patrika?
The Marathi wedding card. “Lagna” is the wedding and “patrika” the card, and it carries the muhurt, the functions and the family’s invitation.
What is written on a Marathi lagna patrika?
श्री गणेशाय नमः and the family deity, शुभ विवाह, the elders’ blessing, the couple with चि. and चि. सौ. कां., the muhurt and the venue, the programme, and the names of the निमंत्रक and स्वागतोत्सुक.
What does चि. सौ. कां. mean?
चिरंजीव सौभाग्यकांक्षिणी: a blessing for a long life and a happy marriage, written before the bride’s name. चि. alone goes before the groom’s.
What is the mangalashtak?
Eight auspicious verses sung while the couple stand on either side of the antarpat, a cloth held between them. At “शुभमंगल सावधान” the cloth drops, akshata showers down and they garland each other.
What does “कृपया आहेर आणू नयेत” mean?
“Please don’t bring gifts.” Families who would rather receive only blessings add it at the end of the patrika.
