The Sharma and Mehra families invite you to celebrate Tanya and Vikram, newly married, at their reception. An evening of dinner, music and a lot of happy tears.

  • For office colleagues

Hi everyone! We’re getting married, and we’d love to celebrate with you at our reception in Udaipur. The time and the venue are on the link. It would mean a lot to see you there. Tanya and Vikram

  • A short one for WhatsApp

Married, and ready to party! Join Tanya and Vikram at the reception. Dress up, it’s our first evening as Mr and Mrs.

Who hosts the reception

In many North Indian families the groom’s family hosts it, once the bride has come home. Today many couples host it together, often the evening after the wedding.

For a Muslim wedding it’s the Walima, and for a Bengali one the Bou Bhat, both hosted by the groom’s family.

When to send it

With the wedding invite, or on its own if the reception is in another city. Office colleagues and many friends get only this card, and each family’s link shows only what they’re invited to.

What to wear

Your best evening look: sarees, lehengas and gowns, sherwanis, bandhgalas and suits. If there’s a colour or a dress code, put it on the card.

Questions

Who sends the reception invitation?

Usually the groom’s parents, since the groom’s family often hosts it. When both families host together, the card carries both names.

What should a reception card say?

Who is hosting, the couple’s names, the time, the venue and the dress code, and a line that dinner follows. Copy one of the wordings on this page.

Can we invite some guests only to the reception?

Yes. Each family’s link shows only the functions they’re invited to, so office friends see the reception and nothing else.

How do I invite office colleagues to the reception?

One short, warm message in the team group with the link, and a personal one to your manager. There’s a message to copy on this page.

Can the reception card be in Hindi?

Yes. Every card comes in Hindi and English, and the wording here has both.
